BOOK REVIEW: The President is Missing - James Patterson, Bill Clinton

"The President disappears. The world is in shock.

But the reason he's missing is much worse than anyone can imagine.

With details only a President could know, and the kind of suspense only James Patterson can deliver."

Those are the words found on the back cover of the book jacket. Like many Patterson novels, The President is Missing is a fast read, with plenty of action and a few unexpected twists. Clinton's influence is apparent as there is some interesting insight into situations only a President or Senior White House staff would know. Set over the course of three days, the President is forced to confront a terrorist unlike anything the country has ever faced. As we've come to expect from Patterson novels, there are varying points of view from the protagonist, to the antagonist, to multiple players crucial to the story. Patterson and Clinton did a good job of fitting a complex plot into a short time-frame that keeps the reader turning pages.

The President is Missing kept my interest from start to finish, but the whole time I was reading I felt as though something was missing (no pun intended). I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was like an itch I couldn't scratch. And when the book concluded, I felt almost unsatisfied. I was interested and entertained, but left wanting of something I couldn't explain. It's definitely worth reading, but I doubt many will call this the best Patterson novel they've ever read.

My Rating: Four stars
